Prayer for New Beginners LESSON 4: Keep Praying and Let God Change You

Study Guide · Luke 18:1 · October 2, 2026

1.Truth to Remember

Keep praying, because God uses prayer to strengthen us, grow us, and change our hearts.

2.Connection to Life

Brothers and sisters, many people stop when they do not see quick results.

A farmer may feel discouraged when rain is delayed. A parent may feel tired when a child does not change. A believer may feel weak when prayer is not answered right away.

But in the Christian life, we must learn to keep praying.

3.What the Bible Says

Luke 18:1

Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.

This teaches us that prayer requires perseverance. We continue praying even when answers seem delayed.

4.What This Means

First, delayed answers can test our faith.

Many believers become discouraged when God does not answer quickly. They may be tempted to stop praying. But learning to keep praying is part of growing as a follower of Christ.

Second, prayer strengthens us in the Lord.

When we keep praying, God strengthens our hearts. Prayer teaches us patience. It helps us become kinder. It helps us grow.

Third, prayer changes situations and people.

Sometimes God changes the situation. Sometimes God changes our hearts while we wait. But a person who prays daily will not remain the same.

Fourth, prayer is part of spiritual discipline.

Prayer is not always easy. Sometimes it becomes a struggle. But God can use that struggle to train our faith and make us more like Jesus.

5.A Story to Remember

Imagine a mother praying for her son.

For many months, she sees no change. She feels tired and discouraged.

But she keeps praying. As she prays, God gives her patience, love, and wisdom.

Her son has not changed quickly, but God is already changing her heart.

6.How to Apply This Lesson

Do not stop praying when answers are delayed.

Keep praying when your faith feels weak.

Keep praying when you do not know what to say.

Come to God daily, and let Him strengthen your heart.

7.Respond and Pray

Where do you need to keep praying and not give up?

Prayer: Father, help us keep praying even when answers are delayed. Strengthen our hearts, grow our faith, and make us more like Jesus. In Jesus' name, amen.

Situations This Lesson Addresses

1.Believers stop praying when answers are delayed

Some church members pray for healing, provision, family problems, or work. But when nothing changes quickly, they become discouraged. This lesson teaches them to keep praying and not give up.

2.People think prayer is only about changing the problem

Some believers pray only because they want God to change the situation. This lesson teaches that prayer also changes the person who prays. While we wait, God can grow our patience, faith, kindness, and wisdom.

3.Church members lose hope in long-term family problems

Many Filipino families carry long-term burdens. They may have a child far from God, a spouse who does not believe, debt, sickness, or family conflict. This lesson encourages believers to keep bringing these burdens to God every day.

Note: In the How to Apply This Lesson part of the lesson, you may choose one or two of the situations above and apply the lesson to believers directly.

For example, you can speak to believers who stop praying when answers are delayed. You can also speak to families who are carrying long-term problems. This will help the lesson become more practical and easier for the listeners to apply.

Your Next Step

Brothers and sisters, prayer is not only something we study. Prayer is something we practice. Jesus did not only explain prayer; He taught His disciples to pray. So we must begin praying too.

Do not wait until your words are perfect. Do not wait until you feel strong. Start with simple words. Come to God as your Father. Praise Him, confess your sins, ask for help, and pray for others.

As we keep praying, God will grow our hearts. He will teach us to trust Him more. So let us say, "Lord, teach us to pray."
